Ortofon and Serato announce high performance cartridge

Ortofon introduce the new “Ortofon-Serato S-120 DJ Cartridge” with a patent pending design that will virtually “hug the grooves” of a record using a unique suspension system that the two companies have co- designed.

Serato are continuously researching how to give DJs the most accurate vinyl control of Serato Scratch Live. Vinyl tracking was a logical area for Serato to focus on as every DJ has had a needle pop out of the groove at some stage of their performance.

Working with Ortofon engineers in Denmark we were able to dramatically improve the stability thus improving the overall tracking performance. This was achieved by co-engineering a entirely new suspension system”, reports Steve West, CEO and co-founder of Serato Audio Research. “The S-120’s output is perfectly optimised for Serato Scratch Live DJ software, it also sounds great when playing and archiving records.

We are very proud to put the Serato name on this first product we have created in partnership with Ortofon. All vinyl DJs will benefit from the extreme tracking ability delivered by a revolutionary new cantilever suspension.With 4.0 gms of vertical tracking force, the Ortofon-Serato S-120 achieves an amazing tracking ability of 120m compared to the conventional at 315Hz. That is a 50% improvement on standard DJ cartridge performance.

Christen H. Nielsen, Ortofon CEO said: “We are very satisfied to see here another result of Ortofon investments in new technology. Our core competences in fine mechanics, materials, acoustics all come together in the Ortofon-Serato S-120 DJ cartridge. Working with another vinyl dedicated technology company was of immense benefit.

The product is available in Concorde and OM versions.

Live Help Issues

One of the new features of the new Lightsounds web site is “Live Help” allowing users to communicate directly with Lightsounds staff. Live Help is generally available from Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm Sydney time, as well as some Saturdays and additional hours from time to time.

There have been, however, a few issues with Live Help. As one of the main operators of Live Help, I can tell you that there is usually a delay of up to 60 seconds before the chat windows open and chatting can start with users. Therefore, if you are waiting for Live Help, you will need to allow a minute or so before considering giving up.

Also – whether an operator is available or not, the message will ALWAYS show up saying that all operators are busy. Again, please wait for at least a minute for an operator to join the chat.

Finally, and this has happened twice today, for no reason that I can see, when an operator chooses to talk to a client, the chat window simply does not open – leaving the user waiting in limbo. Even after restarting the software, the problem does not always rectify itself.

Lightsounds is working on having these Live Help issues rectified. If you cannot get through on Live Help, or your connection goes unanswered, then either try again later, call your nearest store or email us at sales@lightsounds.com.

New American Audio Products 2010
