Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

Venue Name:  Athlete Lab

About the Venue:

Athlete Lab is a state of the art Virtual Reality Cycling “laboratory” where customers can bring their bike and race some of the most challenging cycle courses in the world. With facilities in Singapore and Circular Quay Sydney, this new virtual sport is really taking off. State of the art custom motion sensor software reacts to your movements and cycling speed, so the image on screen mirrors your movements. It really makes you feel like you are there participating in an event, so if you want to race around your local city or take on the gruelling Tour De France make sure you give Athlete Lab a visit. Take a look at this video where they feature the complex projection system that was installed by Lightsounds:

Client Brief:

To integrate specialty cycling equipment and customised projected virtual images so the cyclists have real time feedback on their performance while racing. Tristan wanted the setup to be as realistic as possible we installed the software program with projection screens in HD with projectors and a sound system to suit the space.

Key Equipment Used:

Gefen HDMI matrix
Belkin KVM Switcher
Epson 3000 lumen HDMI projectors
LG 46inch LED HDTV
EAW VR62 250w Speakers
Wharfedale Delta 15 Subwoofers
Wharfedale S1500 Amplifiers

What they had to say:

“We first approached Lightsounds in relation to our audio requirements, however it quickly became apparent that their service and abilities went well beyond the usual audio/visual equipment. Our business model is based around the latest virtual reality hardware and presented a myriad of uncertainties and problems that had even had our specialist IT consultants unsure of how to proceed.
Lightsounds looked at what we wanted to achieve and developed the solution that we had been looking for. This was no easy task and was well outside of the usual scope of work of an audio/visual company, with the use of numerous pieces of unique hardware and specialist software.
Specifically they developed a method for the linking of 32 force plates, power meters and flow meters to a computer system that can process the data in real time and feed it to over a dozen different visual and audio outputs. From originally contacting Lightsounds in regards to audio equipment, we ended up using them to specify, supply and install all our audio, visual, computer and telecommunications hardware. The installation team worked meticulously and efficiently and their follow-up customer service has gone above and beyond our expectations. We will definitely be using Lightsounds again for any future installations.”
